Why Grammarbar

Fixes the mistakes. Keeps your voice.

  • Keeps how you sound

It changes as little as possible. Your meaning, names, and tone stay yours, with no robotic rewrites.

  • Any language you write in

It corrects the text in the language it is already in and never translates, even when you mix languages.

  • Private by default

It reads only the words you select, only when you press the shortcut. Grammarbar does not store your text.

  • Stays out of the way

It lives in the menu bar. No window to paste into, no browser extension. Command-Z undoes a correction.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Do I have to paste my text into Grammarbar?

No. Select the words in the app you already have open and press your shortcut. The correction replaces them there. Grammarbar stays in the menu bar and does not open a window to paste into. The shortcut starts as Control-Option-R, and you can change it in Settings.

Will it change how I sound?

No. It corrects the text in the language it is already written in, and it does not translate, even when the text mixes languages. It changes as little as possible and keeps the meaning, the names, and the tone. There is no tone picker.

Does it read everything I type?

No. It reads only the words you select, and only when you press the shortcut. Grammarbar does not store that text or the correction, does not sell it, and does not read password fields. The selection is sent to OpenAI to be corrected. OpenAI does not use API data to train its models, and it may keep the request for up to 30 days to check for abuse.

Will it work in the apps I already use?

It works in the Mac apps where you can select text, including Mail, Gmail, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Messages, Notion, Google Docs, and Chrome. A correction needs an internet connection. If the field is read-only, nothing is changed.

Why does macOS ask for Accessibility?

That permission lets Grammarbar read the selection and put the correction back in the app you have open. You allow it once. First launch walks you through the permission, the shortcut, sign-in, and one sentence to try.

Do the free rewrites expire?

No. You sign in on this site, with a username and password or with Google, and the account includes 30 free rewrites. They are a count, not a clock: one counts when a correction comes back, a failed or timed-out rewrite does not, and deleting the plan does not start the count again. After that, monthly and yearly plans are on the pricing page. A paid plan includes up to 2,000 rewrites a calendar month as fair use, so one person can write and the account is not shared or scripted. The count starts again on the 1st (UTC).

What if the correction is wrong?

Read it before you send it. The model can be wrong. Command-Z in the other app undoes the paste.

If I cancel, do I lose the time I already paid for?

No. Cancel renewal on the account page. That stops the next charge, and the plan keeps working until the end of the period already paid. Before that date you can turn renewal back on, or switch between monthly and yearly, and the next charge stays on that date. The cancellation and refund pages explain the 14-day withdrawal right.
